Hand, Wrist

Thanks again to all the time we spend on computers and other smart devices, hand and wrist pain seem to be impacting more people—but there can be many other causes. That’s why seeing an orthopedic hand or wrist specialist at Central Indiana Orthopedics is important in getting an accurate diagnosis.

Hand Pain

Hand pain can be the result of a condition that has developed over time, such as carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis, or of a recent finger injury like a fracture or jam.

Wrist Pain

Wrist pain can be the result of a condition that has transpired over time or from overuse injuries like tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis, or as the result of an injury like a fracture or sprain. Early diagnosis may help prevent further damage that could require surgery.

Common hand and wrist injuries and conditions treated by our orthopedic hand and wrist specialists and surgeons include:

  • Arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Contracture
  • Finger fracture or dislocation
  • Hand fracture
  • Lacerations
  • Mass (nodule)
  • Tendonitis
  • Trigger finger
  • Wrist fracture or dislocation

Make an appointment for evaluation if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Increased hand and arm pain
  • Finger joint pain when carrying, gripping, grasping or twisting objects
  • Swelling or significant bruising in the wrist, around the joint or over the forearm
  • Changes in the surrounding joints—if you are experiencing thumb joint pain, your neighboring finger joints may become more mobile than normal
  • Your hand, palm and fingers may feel warm or appear red in color
  • Hand numbness, tingling or throbbing in the hand and forearm
  • Inability to carry, open or twist objects
  • A sensation of grating or grinding in the affected joint—this is caused by damaged cartilage
  • Developing cysts on the end joints of your fingers—this is caused by conditions such as arthritis
  • Difficulty straightening your wrist

  • Arthritis reconstruction
  • Carpal tunnel release
  • Dupuytren’s contracture fasciectomy
