Meet Dr. Brent Damer, board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Central Indiana Orthopedics Muncie and Marion offices. Dr. Damer specializes in adult reconstruction, including total hips, total knees and the complex revisions of those procedures.
Dr. Damer has been practicing at CIO since 2009, but his love for orthopedics started when he was a senior in high school. “My first desire to become a doctor started in my advanced biology class,” Dr. Damer said. “My teacher gave us the opportunity to shadow a surgeon, and I was able to see a total knee replacement. From there I was hooked on orthopedics.”
Specializing in adult reconstruction, Dr. Damer’s practice consists of utilizing advanced technology, including Mako SmartRobotics™ for hip and knee replacement. “Mako allows me to have a more accurate preoperative plan coming into surgery utilizing a CT-scan,” Dr. Damer said. “During surgery, it gives me more data to make sure I’m putting the implants in a more precise manner, which can help improve outcomes with less pain and a quicker recovery.”
Less pain and a quick recovery to return to a normal lifestyle are two of Dr. Damer’s goals when treating patients. “I love being able to help patients get back to a point where they can be pain free and able to be active,” Dr. Damer said.
Dr. Damer also strives for educating his patients and setting expectations, so together they work as a team during the treatment process. “I put an emphasis on educating my patients and setting expectations so we are on the same page during their course of treatment,” Dr. Damer said. “They know what I’m expecting of them postoperatively and in return, I know what they are expecting of me so that we can work together to get the best outcome possible.”
When Dr. Damer isn’t practicing medicine, he loves being with his family and traveling. “We are a very busy family with six kids, so we are always busy with activities or games,” Dr. Damer said.
