Get to Know Dr. Stanton Wilhite

Meet Dr. Stanton Wilhite, our newest physician at Central Indiana Orthopedics. Dr. Wilhite is a podiatric surgeon specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders, tendon and ligament repair and diabetic wound care/limb salvage. He practices at our Anderson, Muncie and Marion locations and joined the team early August.

Dr. Wilhite’s interest in medicine began around the age of 10. “Growing up playing sports, I experienced foot and ankle injuries. I also loved the aspect of treating people and helping them get better,” said Dr. Wilhite. He also had a positive influence in the medical field to coach him on the importance of patient care – his dad – CIO Anderson’s beloved cast tech of almost 20 years, Gilbert!

With Indiana as his home, his path to become a podiatric surgeon didn’t take him too far away from his roots. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. He then went on to complete a reconstructive foot and ankle surgery residency at the Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan.

What attracted Dr. Wilhite to specialize in podiatry is his observation that almost everyone experiences a foot or ankle injury at some point in their life, and every patient has different needs, whether it be diabetic foot care, a sports injury or trauma. “Whatever the need, I want the patient to walk away with their injury or ailment resolved,” said Dr. Wilhite. “As their doctor, I will treat them with the utmost care and respect and give them a sense of family while they’re in the room with me. At the end of the day, as long as they’re happy, I’m happy.”

The addition of Podiatry to CIO’s foot and ankle team allows us to broaden the services of expert foot and ankle care we deliver to our patients. With Dr. Wilhite specializing in diabetic wound care and limb salvage, this is especially a benefit to our diabetic patients with foot and ankle ailments. “Diabetes is very prevalent in our society today,” said Dr. Wilhite. “Diabetic patients can present with a myriad of issues, and it’s a privilege to help them get back to walking again and change their lives for the better.”

Dr. Wilhite believes in a team approach to patient care with a goal of working together with the patient to diagnose their injury or ailment and get them back on track to enjoying life. “What I love most about what I do is changing the lives of people, whether that be allowing them to walk again, go back to their respective sport or allowing them to be pain free,” said Dr. Wilhite. “It gives me great joy and great honor to be able to provide that as their doctor.”

When Dr. Wilhite isn’t practicing, he enjoys working out, being outdoors and spending time with his family, wife and dog. Watch Dr. Wilhite’s video interview below, or learn more at ciocenter.com/physicians/stanton-a-wilhite-d-p-m/. To make an appointment, call 800-622-6575.
