Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Camilleri received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency with Ohio University, where he served as chief resident and was then fortunate enough to embark on two subspecialty fellowships. First, under the direction of Dr. Arthur Rettig in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Camilleri was trained in complex sports medicine injuries and surgeries, including knee and shoulder reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and hip injuries in athletes. He then completed a second fellowship with Dr. Michael Salata and Dr. James Voos in Cleveland, Ohio, focusing further on arthroscopic hip surgery, femoroacetabular impingement, and other athletic hip injuries.
Dr. Camilleri has a strong interest in hip pain and feels privileged to have been given training in this area by some of the most respected names in the field, including Dr. Peter Maiers in Indianapolis, as well as Dr. Salata and Dr. Voos in Cleveland. He also considers himself extremely fortunate to have gained experience treating athletes of all levels, and he applies the same approach for his athletes to all of his patients. Dr. Camilleri has served as an assistant team physician with the Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns of the NFL and he continues to assist with player medical evaluations during the NFL Combine. He has also been a team physician for several colleges, including Indiana State University, the University of Indianapolis, and Oberlin College.
