Kimberly Worden’s experience with knee pain is something many can relate to. A retired athlete and coach, Kimberly dedicated years to playing Division 1 softball and basketball, followed by 35 years as a softball coach. However, the toll of her active lifestyle led to chronic left knee pain that lingered for over 15 years.
Prior to coming to Central Indiana Orthopedics, Kimberly lived in Michigan and sought treatment through cortisone injections. Even after moving to Indiana, she continued to receive injections, but they became less effective as time passed. Realizing she needed a more permanent solution, Kimberly began researching her options and spoke to people she knew in the medical field, which led her to Dr. John Martin at CIO.
After a comprehensive evaluation that included x-rays and an MRI, Kimberly and Dr. Martin decided on a total knee replacement using Mako robotic technology, which she had in March 2024. “Dr. Martin educated me on Mako technology and how precise the surgery would be,” Kimberly said. “I felt confident and at ease going into surgery.”
Like so many of the 3000+ patients who have benefited from the use of Mako technology in their joint replacement surgeries, Kimberly experienced less pain and faster recovery than with traditional joint replacement surgery procedures. Now, one year post-surgery, Kimberly is enjoying a renewed sense of freedom. “I can walk several miles without pain and navigate stairs without difficulty,” she said. “It feels like a brand-new knee!”
Kimberly appreciates the care she received at CIO, noting Dr. Martin’s clear communication and compassion throughout the process. “I wholeheartedly recommend CIO and Dr. Martin to anyone looking to improve their life through joint replacement surgery.”
