Welcome CIO’s New Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Ryan Jaggers

Meet Dr. Ryan Jaggers, the newest member of our team at Central Indiana Orthopedics! Dr. Jaggers is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship trained in sports medicine, specializing in several types of knee repair, reconstruction and restoration procedures, as well as Mako SmartRobotics™ robotic-arm assisted knee and hip replacement. He sees patients of all ages and treats a variety of conditions ranging from sports injuries to arthritis.

Dr. Jaggers has been practicing in the Indianapolis area since 2014 and joins CIO with an impressive background in sports medicine. After his fellowship training in sports medicine, Dr. Jaggers incorporated his love of sports into his career and spent eight years as the head team physician of Hanover College. He has also worked with several central Indiana high schools and previously served for many years as an orthopedic consultant for the NFL Combine. He applies the valuable training and experiences he had working with elite athletes to caring for his patients in clinic. “I think this experience gives me a unique perspective when it comes to taking care of an injured athlete,” said Dr. Jaggers. “I understand what their situation is and what it’s going to take to get them back on the field, safely and successfully.”

His interest in medicine started in high school when he was diagnosed with a heart condition. While his heart condition was treated and resolved, it was that experience with the physicians that sparked his interest in medicine. After his first year of medical school, he pursued an internship in Columbus where he was able to rotate with doctors from all fields of medicine. It was then that he was drawn to orthopedics because of the hands-on approach and ability to create a tangible and visible result when treating patients with orthopedic needs.

As orthopedics is everchanging, Dr. Jaggers is passionate about staying up to date with the latest technology. Specializing in hip and knee arthritis, he became certified in Mako SmartRobotics technology for total/partial knee replacement and hip replacement procedures, allowing him to offer those suffering with pain from arthritis more precise results and improved outcomes.

Dr. Jaggers says the three words that describe him best are thorough, honest and compassionate. “I try to treat each patient as if they were a member of my own family, giving them the time they deserve to express any concerns and for me to provide an accurate, thorough diagnosis,” said Dr. Jaggers. “I believe leading with compassion and honesty creates a trusting relationship with my patients and can lead to a better experience and successful outcome.”

Overall, what Dr. Jaggers loves most about what he does is helping patients get back to doing what they enjoy without pain. “Whether it’s playing high-level sports, getting back to work, doing things with their loved ones that they’ve missed out on or just getting through daily activities, each is equally rewarding in its own way,” Dr. Jaggers said.

In his free time, Dr. Jaggers enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, golfing and listening to live music. And he’s also a shoe fanatic, owning more than 60 pairs of Nike Air Jordan shoes!
