Welcome Dr. John Martin to Central Indiana Orthopedics

Meet Dr. John Martin, the newest member of our team at Central Indiana Orthopedics! A fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Martin specializes in hip and knee replacement, including total hip, total/partial knee replacement procedures and revision surgeries. Additionally, he is certified in Mako SmartRobotics™ technology for hip and knee replacement and utilizes a direct anterior approach for a number of his hip replacement surgeries. He practices at our Anderson and Fishers locations.

Originally from Jeffersonville, a small town in southern Indiana, Dr. Martin had an opportunity in high school to shadow a local doctor in the community. “During that experience, I knew I wanted to work in patient care in some aspect of my career,” Dr. Martin said. “Once I was in college, I saw all the other opportunities the field of medicine had to offer and knew that was the path for me.”

Dr. Martin chose to stay in the Hoosier state and attended Indiana University for his undergraduate and doctorate degrees. For residency and fellowship, he and his wife relocated to Arizona. Dr. Martin completed residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. He chose to further specialize in orthopedic surgery and underwent a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction Arthroplasty at the CORE Institute, also in Phoenix.

“My wife and I said if we ever got the opportunity to return to Indiana, we’d take it,” Dr. Martin shared. “When I got word that Dr. David Graybill would be retiring and looking for a surgeon to take over his practice, I was hopeful it would be the right opportunity.” Dr. Graybill wanted a seamless transition of his practice after retirement, seeking a surgeon with similar approaches to technology, surgery and patient care. After meeting Dr. Martin and knowing the expertise of surgeons he trained with, Dr. Graybill felt that Dr. Martin was the perfect fit.

What intrigued Dr. Martin about a career in joint reconstruction is knowing that he could improve patient quality of life. “When patients get to a point where it’s difficult for them to do the things they love because of hip or knee pain, it’s rewarding that I can help them regain function and activity level through joint replacement surgery,” Dr. Martin shared. “For me, success is a patient who is happy and has achieved their goals, whether that’s through non-operative or operative treatment.” Leading with a team-based approach, Dr. Martin educates his patients on their diagnosis and treatment options and listens while patients express their concerns and goals. Together, they collaborate and choose a treatment strategy that works best for the patient.

When Dr. Martin isn’t practicing medicine, he loves spending time with his wife and daughter, going on walks and cooking. He also enjoys watching the Indianapolis Colts and IU sports. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Martin, request an appointment online or call 800-622-6575.
